RESPONSIBILITIES
In general, the Assistant Manager has responsibility for the daily operations of the store in the Store Manager’s absence. This consists of three major areas:
· Supervise the daily activities of the store consistent with all operational policies and procedures prescribed for the store;
· Favorably impact the sales volume at the store; and
· Staff the store effectively.
These major responsibilities are described below.
Supervise the daily activities of the store consistent with all operational policies and procedures prescribed for the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
Comply with all policies and procedures related to the cash register transactions, bank deposits and daily cash reconciliations.
Comply with all policies and procedures related to inventory control including receiving, stock transfers and accurate markdown dollars.
Maintain the security of the store and understand the operations of the store security system if applicable.
Capture all mailing list information to keep District Manager and home office aware of statistics necessary for marketing and advertising decisions.
Favorably impact the sales volume at the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
Maintain the selling floor in a neat and attractive manner at all times.
Assist the Store Manager in the merchandising of the store to maximize sales. In particular, display, layout and placement of merchandise with proper signage in the manner most conducive to create multiple sales.
Stay abreast of promotional activities in the local marketplace and suggest how company advertising and promotions can dovetail effectively with promotional activities in the local marketplace.
Assist the Store Manager in the development of the staff and their product knowledge to enable them to use personalized selling techniques with the customers to achieve multiple sales.
Staff the store effectively in the absence of the Store Manager.
Understand the time and hours budgeted for the sales staff so in the absence of management, the store will be staffed effectively keeping within those guidelines.
In the presence of the Store Manager, the Assistant Manager performs duties under the direction of the Store Manager.
SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM SUCCESSFULLY
Represent Hartstrings in a professional manner.
Promote “team spirit” through positive leadership skills.
Sufficient initiative, responsibility and thoroughness to maintain the procedural integrity of the store.
Sufficient product knowledge, fashion sense and merchandising skills to assist in the presentation of the merchandise in a manner conducive to maximizing sales.
The interactive skills sufficient to deal effectively with customers and to supervise staff.
The ability to follow directions from upper management to accomplish above skills.
An Assistant Manager should demonstrate potential to become a Store Manager within a two to three year period.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
A four-year college degree is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
Two years of prior experience in a retail store or similar environment are required.
