POSITION:        Store Manager, Tanger Pittsburgh Outlet (Pittsburgh, PA)

 

STATUS:           Full time; Exempt

RESPONSIBILITIES

In general, the Store Manager has overall responsibility for the daily operations of the store. This consists of five major areas:

 

  • Supervise the daily activities of the store consistent with all operational procedures prescribed for the store;

 

  • Favorably impact the sales volume at the store;

 

  • Staff the store effectively;

 

  • Meet the budget requirements; and,

 

  • Meet all relevant key tasks in the company calendar.

 

These major responsibilities are described below.

 

  • Supervise the daily activities of the store consistent with all operational policies and procedures prescribed for the store.

 

Comply with all policies and procedures related to the cash register transactions, bank deposits and daily cash reconciliation’s.

 

Comply with all policies and procedures related to inventory control including receiving, preparing daily sales by style information, accurate markdown dollars and stock transfers. In general, safeguard the custody of the inventory.

 

Maintain the security of the store and understand the operations of the store security system if applicable.

 

Capture all mailing list information necessary for marketing and advertising decisions, as well as ascertaining your customer base.

                                                                                                                                                                   

                                                                                                                

·         Favorably impact the sales volume at the store.                 

 

Complete neatly and accurately all paperwork and mail on a timely basis.

 

Maintain the selling floor in a neat and attractive manner at all times.

 

Merchandise the store to maximize sales. In particular, display, layout and place the merchandise with proper signage in a manner most conductive to create multiple sales.

 

Execute exciting and creative window trimmings and interior displays as directed by the home office.

 

Assist Retail Buyers in determining the product mix for the store. Frequent communication regarding quality, fit and style is essential. Make recommendations on needed markdowns, and items not selling well. Inform buyers of items selling well and reorder requirements.

 

Communicate frequently with District Manager with pertinent information regarding your location, store performance, stock levels, center events, etc.

 

Stay abreast of promotional activities in the local marketplace and suggest how company advertising and promotions can dovetail effectively with promotional activities in the local market.

 

Review seasonal competitive pricing and fashion trends in the local marketplace and inform the District Manager and Retail Buyers in writing of the local competitive pricing structure.

 

Develop the staff and their product knowledge to enable them to use personalized selling techniques with the customers to improve sales.

 

·         Staff the store effectively.

 

Recruit, develop and train qualified personnel for each position. Ensure that all personnel are trained effectively for all relevant procedures.

 

Prepare an annual performance review for the Assistant Manager, Third and Fourth Key Holders and hourly personnel, and recommend rate changes or terminations as appropriate.

·         Meet budget requirements.

 

Meet all budget implications as developed by the home office, paying special attention to controllable expenses.

 

Assist with the development of the annual sales plan by month for the upcoming year for staff levels, telephone expense, supply expense, utilities and other expenses as necessary. Send written recommendations to District Manager.

 

Maintain staffing levels within budget.

 

·         Meet all relevant key tasks in the company calendar.

 

Conduct annual physical inventories. The presence of the Manager is required throughout the process.

 

 

Prepare the performance review for the Assistant Manager, Third and Fourth Key Holders, and hourly personnel as stated by the home office.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM SUCCESSFULLY

 

·         Represent Hartstrings in a professional manner.

 

·         Promote “team spirit” through positive leadership skills.

 

·         Sufficient initiative, responsibility and thoroughness to maintain the procedural integrity of the store.

 

·         Sufficient product knowledge, fashion sense and merchandising skills to present the merchandise in a manner conducive to maximizing sales.

 

·         The interactive skills sufficient to deal effectively with customers and to supervise staff.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

·         A four-year college degree is highly desirable, but not mandatory.

 

·         Three years of prior experience in a retail store or similar environment are required.
